Village in the Shade · Yokai guide
Recognize each encounter before choosing a tool. These routes prioritize the condition that ends the event, rather than treating every yokai as a combat target.

Daruma

Random night encounter
Locate the unusual marked stone. Stop moving during the warning/red-indicator phase, then strike the exposed form with the pickaxe when movement is safe. Simply running farther away does not solve the teleporting pursuit.
Hundred Eyes

Black shapes spreading across the screen
Switch the flashlight back on to clear the view. Identify the distinctive target-like eye and attack that body; do not waste the entire night hitting every ordinary black shape.
Nozuchi

Earthquakes and sudden grass
Cut the new grass with the sickle to expose the body. Hit it three times, then repeat the search-and-hit cycle three times in total. Carry recovery food for the dangerous search phase.
Lantern / hand-eye encounter

Lantern-like pursuer and purple structures
Avoid its line of sight and break five purple structures with the pickaxe. Then go to the village square and break the final structure that appears. The last step matters: five alone is not completion.
Tengu merchants

The flashlight fails inside the village
Choose a red or blue candle and search for corresponding colored glints. The candle color also changes the pursuing enemies. Check the displayed purchase price; the goal is collecting fragments and plans, not killing the merchants.
Umbrella yokai

Rainy night
Dodge its straight charge sideways. During its pause, pick up the hat-like form and place it on a Jizo statue. Repeat for all four statues; plan the statue route before provoking several pursuers.
Wind and Thunder

Summer thunderstorm encounter
Find four red and four blue small creatures. Defeating the red group stops Thunder; the blue group stops Wind. Prioritize the red group if lightning is causing damage. Clear both in one night for the combined reward.
Snow woman

Winter snowy encounter
Carry the child to the father’s grave. Find the grave and plan the route before the final attempt; its position can vary. Dropping the child or being interrupted provokes pursuit. Retreat safely and accept the child again rather than wandering while carrying it.
The charging master

When the large rock-summoning boss appears
Use a spacious area and a pickaxe. Deflect the small homing rocks back into the boss; six successful hits are reported in the officially analyzed playthroughs. Clear the line of fire and heal between attempts. Do not confuse ordinary boulders with the deflectable projectiles.
Ringing phone

After the silent-call prerequisite
Find the ringing mobile phone, keep it accessible and reach the outside phone booth while it is ringing. Answer there to resolve the pursuit. Bring the broken phone to Sazanka during the day and return for the follow-up reward.
Headless doll

A body found behind the library
Place the doll at home. On a night when it disappears, follow it through the village until it stops. Collect the head and repair plan; this is a tracking event, not a fight.
Seasonal fox shrine

A fox leads the way at night
Follow the fox and record the current seasonal offerings. Deliver items already available before spending on a major expansion. Repeated visits can help with missing offerings; do not assume every requested crop is sold in year one.
White walking ghost

At night near the bridge
Follow when it starts moving and keep pace until it reaches its destination. Ignoring the invitation can provoke an attack. Pick up the reward after it stops; this encounter is about following, not fighting.
Cow apparition

A disturbance in an established livestock shed
Open the shed at night, then follow the call toward the mountain behind it. Dig the mound in front of the apparition with the hoe. The route leads to bones and a livestock whistle; investigate before trying to hit the animal itself.
Moon rabbit

Mountain summit after deer-hunting access
Visit the summit and observe the moon-like apparition. Check the ground after it leaves for its rewards. This is a collection event rather than a boss to defeat; do not spend ammunition trying to force an early drop.
Pond master

Cursed items and the northeastern waterfall
Show a cursed item to Konno during the day before taking offerings to the waterfall. Meet the current offering requirement and return for later stages. This route can reward maximum health, while fox offerings concern stamina. Keep cursed items for the next requirement instead of shipping them for negligible value.
