VERA

Originally your roaming baby monitor robot, VERA was upgraded by your mother before she went to her final battle with the Shallari. When the Crusaders later cast you out as an orphan, VERA stuck by your side. Living on the streets, you continued to upgrade and modify her whenever you could steal parts (or money to afford parts). VERA is now a fully autonomous and sentient being, a substitute parent figure for most of your life. More than just a guide and knowledge repository, VERA is now the only person you completely trust.

Harry

Harrino Y’Astrella grew up on a Helios diaspora planet, in a community of gentle, peace-loving farmers. He was So! Bored! Craving excitement and adventure, and in defiance of the Helios distaste for spaceships, Harry and some friends left their home behind for the chrome and neon of Neo Barcelona. They were soon seduced by its excitement, danger, and excess. Eventually his friends all fled, leaving Harry as the only Helios on the planet. One Helios tradition Harry still observes is a vow of non-violence, which caused trouble when he worked for the La Familia gang. Eventually they fired him, but threatened to kill Harry if he ever tries to leave the planet.

Red Rosie

Red Rosie is the formidable and charismatic leader of the Harlequins, having gained her nickname by losing an ear to a Shallari bite. Red Rosie has some of the best weapons and equipment in Neo Barcelona, and nobody knows where she gets it from. Rumor says she has the city’s best armorer, a talented crafter named Patch, hidden away and working only for her. In fact, Rosie started this rumor – because she is Patch! As a young girl, Patch lived on the streets of Neo Barcelona and was friends with Jack. They lost touch when Jack joined the Crusaders, and Patch became an apprentice armorer. Eventually Patch quit to reinvent herself as a fighter, adopting a new look and name, and joined the Harlequins – where she quickly rose to the top.

The demo ends after defeating Cazares and the Cyberbeast. The following journey continues beyond that encounter.

After saving the city, Jack stays to help the Drawn learn who they once were. She rejects T-POM’s revenge, but sees a way to recover memories through the Cromat steel in cybernetics.
