Direct answer

Start in Casual while learning the turn clock: every move advances enemies and skill cooldowns. Keep a focused mix of damage, control and survival effects, compare loot by how it supports that plan, then use the Town Hub before pushing into elite and boss encounters.

Choose the learning rule first

Casual preserves both loot and world progress after death, making it the clearest starting point for learning enemy timing and item effects. Casual Rogue preserves loot but returns the run to the first dungeon. Hard Core removes loot and progress, so it is best treated as a separate commitment rather than the default learning mode.

Treat movement as the combat clock

Delve Survivors advances time whenever you act. Moving into an enemy performs the melee attack automatically, while equipped skills fire after their turn-based cooldowns. Before moving, check whether the tile improves spacing, exposes the character to a crowd or advances a skill that is nearly ready.

Give the first build one clear job

The official description confirms area effects, status effects and summons as build layers. Early choices are easier to evaluate when they reinforce one repeatable plan: clear groups, control dangerous enemies or create space. A higher rarity label alone does not prove that an item fits the skills already equipped.

Compare loot before replacing equipment

Magic, Rare, Legendary and Unique are the confirmed rarity tiers. Gear can change statistics, strengthen abilities and unlock interactions, so compare the actual effect with the current cooldown and positioning plan. Exact affix ranges and drop rates are not published and should not be assumed from rarity.

Use the Town Hub before the next push

The Town Hub upgrades weapons and armor, improves class-based statistics, sells potions and magic scrolls and shares items between characters in the same game mode. Finish preparation there before entering a dungeon whose elites, mid-level boss and final boss will test resources, synergy and positioning.

Check the current Demo state

The August Demo update changed dungeon generation, floor progression, loot handling and Legendary Enchantments, and warned that older saves could reset. Recheck official announcements after an update instead of relying on an older route or item assumption.
