Casual keeps loot and world progress after death. Casual Rogue sends you back to the first dungeon but keeps your loot. Hard Core removes both loot and progress, making it the permanent-loss option.

Which mode should you choose?

Choose Casual if you want to learn enemies, positioning and upgrades without losing persistent progress. Choose Casual Rogue if you want runs to reset while preserving collected equipment. Choose Hard Core only if losing the entire character journey is part of the experience you want.

Casual mode

The official description presents Casual as the forgiving RPG option. Death does not remove collected loot or world progress, so it is the safest mode for learning systems and continuing a character over multiple attempts.

Casual Rogue mode

Casual Rogue uses a roguelite rule set: death returns the player to the first dungeon while collected loot remains. A June demo update removed the retry option from this mode, so older videos may show behavior that no longer matches the current rule.

Hard Core mode

Hard Core is the permanent-loss option. The official store says death removes loot and progress. A June fix also closed a demo loophole that had allowed a restart from the last saved state.

What this comparison does not claim

The official material defines the death rules, but it does not publish complete balance differences, reward modifiers or separate drop rates for each mode. Those details remain unconfirmed until they can be checked in the release build.
