A practical first-maze checklist

Use your blocks to shape a useful route, leave the footprint needed for your towers, and choose effects that work with the defenses you already have. Make those three decisions before chasing a theoretical best-tower list.

1. Plan the route before the wave

The official Steam overview describes building your maze before battle and balancing a longer route against better tower positions. As an editorial starting point, identify the approach and the places where your planned towers can cover it before spending all the blocks.

2. Reserve space for the tower

Towers have different footprints. Filter the tower database by the space you can support, and check unusual shapes carefully. Filling every available square can make the next useful tower harder to place.

3. Compare attack roles, not just damage

Direct projectiles, chain attacks, explosions and continuous effects behave differently. The catalog's base damage field is not sustained DPS. Read the attack description and decide which gap in your defense it addresses.

4. Account for temporary defenses

Scrap Tower's game text specifies an ammo limit and no gold from recycling. If you rely on it to handle an early section of the route, watch its ammunition and plan how the rest of your defense will take over.

5. Pick relics with a specific trigger in mind

Search the relic list for the effect you need, then read the trigger and any cap. An effect that requires a tower or event you cannot supply may be less useful than a modest effect that works immediately.

6. Add runes with placement in mind

The official overview introduces runes as modifications to block cards. Check the rune descriptions for where each effect applies before planning a tower around it.

Before changing your build

  • Check whether the problem is coverage, space, ammunition or an unmet effect trigger.
  • Change one part of the layout and observe the result.
  • Read enhancement text for any element conversion.
  • Use the version notes when comparing an older guide with your game.

This is an editorial checklist based on official gameplay information and extracted display text. No route, damage benchmark or build was tested in a running game.
