Dr. Selena Faber

Show image
Reveal story — spoilers

The brilliant scientist Dr. Selena Faber moved to Rugosa City approximately twenty years ago, looking for a secluded and well-protected location in which she could carry out her experiments. Her goal was to develop the technology of the future that would better humankind. She found such a place in the old abandoned prison island, where prying eyes could be kept at bay.

As the Doctor was without sight, many speculated that her work would amount to nothing — until recent years, when some of the technological marvels she had been working on within the prison walls started coming to light. But not long after, the war against the Terragonians began encroaching on the city.

Out of fear of Faber’s mysterious technology getting into enemy hands, the Acacian military performed an artillery strike on the island. It was a desperate tactical move that would prove futile, as just days later, a new enemy presented itself: the Rifters. They immediately took over the prison island and erected their strange energy dome over the city, using the lighthouse tower as an antenna.

Until now, the Thorns believed she was still alive and unaffected by the dome — and being forced to apply her technological mind to enhancing the already advanced Rifter technology even further. They expected her to be working for them... not with them.

- Carries advanced Rifter assault rifle

- Has full body armor and helmet

FREQUENCY RESONATOR

Show image
Reveal story — spoilers

The Elixium verified from deep underground builds up and hardens into solid, seemingly indestructible masses the Thorns refer to as “encrustations.” Over time, the masses develop on the Rifter Harvester machines. However, the enemy uses a special device that emits a particular frequency that is capable of destroying them. With the frequency resonator in their possession, the Thorns can create devices of their own to break apart encrustations that prevent them from accessing areas or entering buildings.

TELEPORTER TRANSPONDER

Show image
Reveal story — spoilers

According to the schematics for a teleporter that Dr. Selena Faber had planned to create, a reliable transponder unit is required in order to successfully transmit a subject to new destination. This unit communicates with the receiver component to determine where the subject was and where it should end up.

TELEPORTER STABILIZER

Show image
Reveal story — spoilers

Without a suitable stabilizer embedded within the teleporter, the subject being relocated has a high likelihood of ending up inside-out upon reaching the new destination. The stabilizer ensures that the deconstructed subject is perfectly reestablished after being transported. A slight miscalculation would be disastrous.

TELEPORTER RECEIVER

Show image
Reveal story — spoilers

As the counterpart to the transponder unit, the receiver component is an integral part of the teleporter’s functionality. The schematics state that it is required for the device to have a proper destination to transmit the subject to. If the receiver were to be defective, there’s no telling where the subject could end up.

RADIATION REGULATOR

Show image
Reveal story — spoilers

From Dr. Selena Faber’s audio diaries, it’s become clear that the Rifters are unable to survive in a foreign atmosphere. The dome they erected over the city must generate the necessary radiation levels they require. The mysterious technical device that Selena wore at all times emitted a concentrated trace of that same radiation. Not enough to be detectable to unsuspecting people, but just enough to sustain her survival while living on a planet not suitable for her.

DOME DESTABILIZER

Show image
Reveal story — spoilers

A handheld module that Dr. Selena Faber created so that she can adjust the dome frequency to stabilize it. If it can be used to stabilize it, then surely it can be made to destabilize it. Only Selena will know for sure. If the Thorns hope to find out, they are first going to have to convince her to turn against her own kind.

ELIXIUM UNBLURRIFICATOR

Show image
Reveal story — spoilers

Part of a Rifter device that somehow converts raw, phase-shifting Elixium into a stable liquid-like mineral that can be verified by their Harvesters. If it can do that to the Elixium, perhaps it can be made to do the same to the civilians still frozen in place. It is a chance the Thorns will have to take if they hope to bring everyone back.
