What to compare
Hair and facial hair
Start with the outline, parting and coverage. Compare a moustache separately from the chin and jaw. A beard can hide details that still need checking in the evidence.
Eyes, brows and nose
Separate eye shape from pupil or iris color. Compare the slope of the eyebrows and the width of the nose before trusting an overall resemblance.
Mouth and ears
Look for lip shape, visible teeth, earlobes and accessories. A single small feature can distinguish two otherwise similar silhouettes.
Evidence comes first
Keep photographs, drawings and descriptions tied to their dates. A costume, an old photograph or a stylized portrait can explain an apparent contradiction. Use this atlas to inspect a feature, not to replace the dossier.
